Bamboo Clothing, all natural clothing range.

Posted in 'General' on January 19, 2010, 6:43 pm

Introducing an exciting new Bamboo clothing range that is literally to dye for!

All the products are free of dye.  The idea behind this natural clothing range is pure and simple eco-style.  You can wear/use the items as we make them (in their naked color) or dye/print/design on them as you’d like – sky is the limit!  Feel free to order and take the garments to your local dyehouse or printer – or keep something for yourself and color at home.  We also made the tags from paper that are easily snipped and torn out - so if you are looking to make a brand of your own, you can add your own label however you want.

Available in exciting fabrics, some of these blends are the first in Australia!

The Bamboo and Hemp blend T is ideal for the whole family, the look is super cool but the wear is actually enjoyable.

Bamboo Baby Blankets

Posted in 'Fabric use & Information' on January 15, 2010, 6:43 pm

I would like to buy some fabric for baby blankets,
One for winter and also a blanket for summer nights.
What fabric do you suggest?

You could use our KF251 Bamboo Interlock Bamboo 70%
Organic Cotton 30%
220GSM
173cm Width
Normally two layers are put together and edged all around for a heavier blanket feel. For a summer blanket you possibly could use just the one layer.
Another possible choice would be our KF821 Bamboo & Sorona Thermal
Bamboo 60%
Sorona 40% (Triexta)
180GSM
172cm Width
Again you could double it up

Maternity sling: What fabric do I use?

Posted in 'Fabric use & Information' on January 10, 2010, 9:45 pm
I have designed a maternity sling top and I want to use a stretch material and love the idea of using bamboo fabric. Would love to know more about your fabrics and what you would recommend.

We have had customers use the KF261 70% Bamboo and 30% Organic Cotton Jersey.
Another fabric which is very new to Australia that might be nice is our KF801 Bamboo & Sorona (derived from Corn) Jersey in Natural.
Also the KF221 Bamboo Spandex Natural (It has a fair amount of stretch due to 5% spandex content) could also be used.
Hope this helps
Best wishes
Richard

Win a $25 BFS Gift Voucher: Tell us your story

Posted in 'Fabric use & Information' on January 9, 2010, 9:55 pm

Personally I have found bamboo excellent for wearing in the heat, better still for sleeping under on hot nights when the dreaded hot flushes occur. Bamboo has been great for my eczema, psoriasis and even thrush.  What about you? Tell us how bamboo has helped with your health issues and you could win a $25 Bamboo Fabric Store gift voucher.

Best wishes

Sewing Bamboo Velour

Sharon has a tip for sewing velour.

Use a "Walking Foot" on your machine. It is tricky still but much more manageable.

Bamboo Fabric for hiking shorts

Posted in 'Fabric use & Information' on January 7, 2010, 7:22 pm

I am intending to sew some shorts for myself – simple shorts with an elasticised waistband and pockets for hiking. I live in Queensland so the temperatures I walk in are often high with high humidity. I need fabric that will wash and dry easily, is breathable and is durable.  The shorts could get wet as I walked because of Alpine rain so I do not want them being weighed down with moisture as I walk.
Can you suggest any that would fulfil the above requirements.

You could try the SB001 Bamboo and Soy blend fabric.
50% Bamboo
50% Soy
145 GSM
114 cm Width

We all know how good bamboo is with its super absorbency, anti bacterial and anti fungal properties but combined with easy wash and fast drying capabilities of Soy it’s truly amazing. A by product of tofu manufacture, soy fabric has good biocompatibility, beneficial to human health and is seen to be a sanitarian fibre.

This fabric is a soft crème caramel but will take well to dyes.

Making fabric Nappies. Which fabrics to use

Posted in 'Fabric use & Information' on December 20, 2009, 8:04 am

I am looking to buy bamboo fabric with the intention of making some nappy liners, which fabric would you recommend?

NAPPY MAKING EXPLAINED
Fitted Nappy
•    A shaped cloth nappy made of absorbent material, generally fastened by snaps or hook & loop. Fitted nappies need a waterproof cover to protect your child's clothing and environment.

•    Whole nappy should be made from absorbing fabrics – bamboo fleece, bamboo & cotton

•    Line with bamboo jersey, bamboo velour, bamboo hemp

AIO Nappies
•    A fitted nappy with a built in waterproof cover.

•    Shell of nappy is usually made from PUL, wool or polar fleece

•    Inner shell – bamboo velour, bamboo jersey

•    Absorbing part of nappy is made from bamboo fleece, bamboo single terry, bamboo double terry, bamboo hemp (faster drying) or bamboo cotton jersey
